D-Day!!

Today was the presentation, One of our members slightly miss-fired with the information. The Member gave completely different information from what the member was doing. This had to be corrected last second. The Presentation was designed by myself which our viewers liked. everything went good besides me moving a few slides about and Jordan getting messed up about it, my bad. our viewers seemed interested and asked us very interesting questions which i think we replied with a very pleasing case.

i think we got a pretty good mark but we will find out soon!!

Some tweeks on my idea (final)

ok so my part of this team was to come up with an idea for the horde. as you can tell i havnt said anything about it on this blog. so my idea was to have a horde that you can control. some games have done this before but in smaller scale. i decided to take that on board. i looked at a few games such as overlord and world of warcraft hunter class. the hunter class in world of warcraft has a pet, it can be a bear to a spider. the user will control this animal to attack targets, stand down and even be controlled by the player using a in-game ability. i think this would work tel with the diffrent stances such as offensive, defensive and passive abilities to allow the user of our game to control the horde.

i also thought about adding a go-to command but due to my idea of high scale this would be hard if the user wanted to allow the horde to travel far and also could be far too easy for the user.
with the idea of overlord i took some time, i look at various abilities that the horde could have.
only a few popped into mind such as health, speed, damage increases but then i looked into different types of horde and that opened the doors for upgrades.
my idea was to have about 5-6 different classes within the horde such as:
a high damage class
a stealth class
a ranged class
a poison class
a scout class
a drone class

by this time i had a lot on my hands with 6 classes all with upgrades. so i capped the upgrades to about 5 levels increasing in hardness to unlock. the unlocks can be done by using brain points which is also used for main character upgrades that naim will be covering. at each boss fight the user will unlock a new class.
the drone class will be the default zombie.

also a side note on my own life im looking to move out seen a nice house near by myself and craig jardine will be moving there if everything goes as planned.

4 weeks remaining

we have 4 weeks left until D-Day (Presentation date). even though naim was off we went through some tweeks on the GUI and i changed the cover art. The cover art is looking good i used some tools including photoshop. i tried to use gimp2 but its too hard, dont know how to use it. by the time i was finish my other team members like my cover art and they showed me some ideas about layouts for controls and key bindings very awesome indeed.

More information about the hud.

i gave ashley the job to research about he hud, ashley will look more in depth about the hud and what works and what doesnt. he will get back to us next week. also ive spoke to a friend at work and he will produce some concept art for our game. only a few bits and bobs but it will help with the presantation.

some ideas for a HUD.

for the hud of the game i was thinking about a mini map on screen with options to open up a larger map, this will allow the player to see objectives and various other key points. there will also be a health bar and an ability bar. The ability bar (this was only spoke about slightly before i posted this) basicly this will be a fury/rage bar were the player can sue it a bit like mana. special abilities will cost mana and will not produce any back. only normal auto swings will preduce mana. i gave the team something to do for this week and that was look define and sum up what they have, so next week we can throw it all to gether and iron out the rubbish or fill the gaps.

New art inprogress.

this for the last 2 weeks protech have been working on patient Z, this was our game. we have decided to make some art for this game including logo for our studio and game case art. i will do these because im talented with photoshop and can draw a little.

A night of Madness.

i was out with a old friend on friday and we chatting ( not spoke in over a year) and i explained to him about my game idea, later on that night he said to me that he think that games already in development but he wasnt sure. the next day, after the hangover i got a message from him with a link to a video, this video was a teaser for a game that was developed in 2003/2004, this game is very similar to ours, but never got released. we spoke on today about this matter and decided to ignore this and continue with our game. Even though the games were similar ours has key points that are different from this "X-GAME" .

Defining Our game.

this week we have collected a new member to the team, Ashley. We all quickly updated Ashley about this game, he seems very interested. We discussed a bit more in depth about how the game will work and some more ideas on upgrades, environment, bosses etc. We all decided to come back next week with a bit of everything, recap and  improve. i was given the zombie horde upgrade system, which to be honest I've only just done at 1:40 am the night before. BAD IDEA. i have been pretty busy this week and went to an all night gaming season at a local LAN centre. managed to get some ideas down and explored 6 new zombie types, will see what Protech think of my findings.

Final Game Idea.

Final Game idea, we decided to combine all of our ideas into one game. On the first week we came up with a quick idea of Pirates vs Ninjas. This was a DOTA like game where you played as a hero class and had to defeat the opposition. We decided to create a new idea due to this game type has been done before quite a lot and seems like the market is to big, as well as its hard to make a game unique when there is a lot on the table already.
This new game will be a third person shooter, were the main character is an alpha zombie. The zombie was an experiment to create a cure for cancer and failed, instead your are an infection. The game starts off with a cut scene of your escaping the lab and meeting someone in a back alley. you decide to attack the stranger and pass of the infection to this victim. The victim dies and comes back to life as a minion. This minion is very weak and can die very easily. the aim of the game is to gather a large horde of zombies and infect as many people as possible.
This game will be a sandbox game where the main character can explore the city and interact with different items and computer controlled people. There are different types and classes of these computer controlled people starting with the average citizen, where they are very one sided and don't know the difference between a person and an infected unless told otherwise. There will also be police which can tell if the infected are about and will be able to do damage towards the player and the horde. Depending on the current heat level of the horde there will be different scales to fight against such as home-land security, raiders, other infected, The Army and many others.
Levelling up will provide a challenge to the player as the story line asks the player to control certain points in the map for unique upgrades, vantage points and spendable points.
the unique upgrades will consist both with the main character and with the players minions. Some of the upgrades will include better attacks, more health, a stealth option where the zombie uses a computer controlled person as a meat suite to blend into the crowd. The upgrade system will be discussed at a later time.
Your enemy is mainly the army, they will rip you apart if you don't take the right vantages points and have correct horde numbers, the map will display where the army is based and where local groups/stations are.
The spendable points will be spent upon your horde, making them stronger and having unique infected with special talents. This will be discussed at a later point.

This game is still been worked upon and will try to provide updates at least once per week. if anyone has got any more they wish to add, please leave a comment or contact myself or my team.

A game Idea.

This game idea popped into my head after watching a video on you tube, the video was about a officer worker receiving an email with a 6 digit code then going to one of his colleagues' desks to set off the fire alarm. Once the fire alarm was set off he processed his way towards a room with a safe, the code was the password for that safe. After gaining entry to that safe he collected an item and had to fight his escape, Here is the video if anyone wants to watch it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYm-dT24iRY

After watching this an idea of the following came into my head:
a game based a year from now where you are a citizen of the public working within a science lab. after a day at work, you are approached by a random person asking you to steal an item from your work, of course you say no. The random person offers you a large sum of money for this request, yet again you decline. The random person gives you a small laugh and says "you will regret this" like all cheesy one liners. a few days later you are working through some paper work, you go to check your emails after hearing the alert status and you have a new email from a random email. being smart you delete it. after a few seconds you hear the  mobile phone ringing, you pull it from your pocket and notice its an unknown caller. you answer the call but there's complete silence. you decide to hang up, as soon has you hang up another email alert status from the same random email address appears in your inbox, yet again you click delete and continue working. A few moments later you inbox in flooded with this same email and both your desk phone and mobile phone start ringing. you decide to answer your desk phone, where you hear white noise. you hang up the phone and check your mobile, yet again it says unknown caller. you decide to block the call and try and open one of these emails. within the email there is a file attached labelled with your name. you decide to open it.

This is the opening for this game. the main aspects of this game will be about an unknown person trying to get a hold of a top secret government project. the person who wants this item is in high power and will do anything to get it even if it takes brainwashing. you play as the slave trying to get this item for this unknown person.

some game details:
this will be a first person point of view.
it will have access to limited firearms.
there will be a massive role to play using parkour.
an upgrade system were the user can buy new perks and abilities to improve their skills with parkour, speed, dodge, weapon skills, combat and more.
players will be able to use surrounding objects as weapons
game will be fast paced.

very much like the video but completely different.
We will see how this idea goes within the group and what we can do to change/edit this idea.

if any one has any ideas give us a little post.
thanks for reading, will be back soon, Richie.
